Reporting Hazards and Incidents
As arborists, we work in a high-risk environment where hazards such as falling branches, dangerous equipment, and working at heights are part of the day to day occurrence. Ensuring a safe workplace is a shared responsibility, and one of the most effective ways to maintain safety is by reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses as soon as they happen.
Why Reporting Matters
Reporting hazards and incidents allows us to:
Prevent Future Accidents: Identifying and addressing risks early can stop serious injuries before they occur.
Meet Legal Obligations: Workplace health and safety laws require serious incidents to be reported to the relevant WorkCover or SafeWork authority in each state or territory.
Improve Workplace Safety: Continuous monitoring and reporting help us create a safer environment for everyone on site
What Should Be Reported?
Under WorkCover and SafeWork guidelines, the following must be reported:
Serious Injuries: Such as fractures, amputations, and serious cuts requiring hospital treatment.
Dangerous Incidents: For example, falls from height or any incidents involving serious injuries or near misses even if no one is injured.
Occupational Diseases: Conditions like hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) from prolonged use of chainsaws and power tools.

How to Report an Incident
Ensure Immediate Safety – Secure the area and provide first aid if needed.
Notify Your Supervisor (for an individual on site)– Report the hazard or incident to your supervisor.
Notify Enviro Trees (if working on one of our jobs).
Document the Details – Complete an incident report, noting what happened and any contributing factors.
Report to WorkCover/SafeWork (If required) – If the incident is classed as a ‘notifiable incident,’ it must be reported to WorkCover or SafeWork in your state.
Confidentiality and Support
Reports will be treated confidentially and used solely to prevent future accidents. By staying vigilant and reporting hazards, we can help ensure that everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.
